Detective Comics: Batman, Impossible but True, Robotman
Batman and Robin are called to the station to see the watchman of a place that had just been robbed, who had lost his memories, despite no sign of trauma. Batman took a blood sample and took it to the batcave. When they were called out again Batman stated that it was Doctor Sampson who was committing these crimes, but the case doesn’t wrap up here as Batman’s memories are erased, along with whatever the evidence was. Here Robin shows Batman around the cave and tells him of his origin. They find a formula in Batman’s pocket and make it up, giving the solution to Batman, but it doesn’t cure his memory. So Robin begins to train Batman, in a reversal of their traditional roles. Also on the note was a tip to check gas diffuses. So they do so, and find Sampson and his gang, but Batman is noticed due to his lack of training and both are captured. Robin is about to be gassed with the amnesia gas himself, but Batman offers them his utility belt in exchange for Robin. He is untied and as he is about to hand over the belt he strikes. His memory had returned! It was a delayed reaction to the solution before and he saved Robin and they went about their lives.
Impossible but True
In this issue a man claims to have a ray that can turn statues into living being for a short amount of time. First he uses it on a lion outside of the library, then on a discus thrower in the park. Roy takes some stone chips before and after the ray is used and decides he wants the man on his show. He agrees, but he must use the last charge to aid humanity. And so he decides to use a statue of a man who was murdered. But Roy only wanted the man on the show to expose him, as he had been hired to put on this act to clear the nephew of the murdered man from suspicion. It was done by using actors covered in clay, and the heat of the machine warmed them enough to move.
In his identity of Paul Dennis Robotman got caught up in a crime, and when the bullet bounced off of him, the crooks ran for it, having figured he was Robotman. Unfortunately this meant when Paul got stuck in quarantine they knew that they would be free of him for a while. So began a great crime wave. In order to stay where he was and still protect his people Robotman made a robot that he could control, in order to make it seem as though he was in town. This way he made the crooks think that it wasn’t safe to come out, and caught many.
First tale this issue was about a magician who believed his magic had become real, for when he made his assistant disappear she truly vanished and he could not find her. Her Brother went after her and PS did the same. Phantom was startled at first by the goblins and demons that surrounded them, but was able to figure out they were paintings, and that a hypnotizing gas was what made the others think they wee real. PS returned the siblings to their mother who had been about to be swindled of a large amount of money had her children not come back.
A rodeo man belied himself to be cursed as he was being dealt a deadman’s hand. first someone shot two bullets into his deck: a pair of aces. Then he received two nooses, tied to make an eight. When he went to ride a bull the next day, the bull’s number was eight as well. Unsettled he fell from the bull easily. Phantom Stranger decided to take the man’s place in a poker game later and used his abilities (whatever they are) to deal every man a deadman’s hand. Shocked the culprit gave himself up, he had wanted top billing and had played his nasty trick so to throw his friend off his game.
We see a man, young looking, lots to see and do. He is feeling trapped by a recurring dream he is having, about this same day over and over. Well one day the events f his dream begin to come true, he cut himself shaving the phone broke in a way that showed him with coins, his boss got a million dollar deal. Well He tries to gain from knowing this day so well and asks his boss to invest in an oil company that was going to hit it rich later that day. But PS Showed up and showed the boss how the man had been faking it. He rigged the machine, he faked his cut, and many other such things so he could steal his boss’s money.
Strange Adventures: Captain Comet
There is and advertisement in the paper asking for a man of certain measurements to come to this guys house, and because he fits the measurements Adam goes. Many men are turned away, and Adam is brought into a room with a large machine. He is told it will give him comet powers like those of Captain Comet, but truly it is made to duplicate Captain Comet, but the duplicate would be evil. First question, how did they get exact measurements of Captain Comet in the first place? But whatever. the duplicate is sent out to kill the real Adam. The duplicate sends them into space and they land on a dangerous planet that kills everything almost at once. The duplicate perishes, but Adam does not: as the bracelet that had been given to his but the man with the duplicator (to tell them apart) protected him from the rays. Then the duplicator returned to his home planet and reported that Earth was too strong to conquer.
Lex is up to his old tricks again the sly bastard. He starts off by building a house so sturdy it’s basically a fort. Then he creates ‘natural’ disasters and blames them on the dark star that is moving through our galaxy. Because he is a smart man a group of wealthy men go with Luthor to his fort, to see his proof. Lois sees this and follows. He tells them about all sorts of horrid things that will begin to happen and tell them they will only be safe in his home. But he will only let them stay if they sign over half of what they own after the danger is past. Lois tells them not to sign, that Superman can protect them.. This is when Lex pulls out the big guns and directs their gaze out the window, where it shows Superman failing to save Metropolis and then being buried alive in meteors. Of course the windows are really tv screens, and the film was made by double exposure. Seeing this via x-ray vision Superman lifts off the roof of the building to show them what it really looked like outside.
A buyout, I mean they happen all around us, they have a huge impact on life. So you can imagine what it was like when the Daily Planet was bought out, and a few day later shut down. Superman got everyone’s spirits up by promising he’d print a paper if he was given stories, and so the staff of the Daily Planet began a part-time newspaper. But as they couldn’t get paid for this they also took on part-time jobs. At first it seems it won’t be so different, Clark and the other reporters get stories and Superman uses a handpress at superspeed to get the paper out. But the owner of the Daily Planet won’t fight fair. He tries to sabotage them a few times, but the closest he got was when he hired an actor done up as him to set a fire where Perry could see him. But Clark was keeping an eye on his friends and saw what was going on, forcing the actor to admit the whole scheme, and threatening to tell the world if he didn’t sell the Planet back.
I don’t remember if you guys got to here the second tale of Inspector Hawkins. He is the greatest of Scotland yard’s sleuths and he once thought Clark was Superman. Clark managed to prove him wrong, but it was a close shave. So when Clark was sent to cover the story of an arsonist in London with the inspector he was nervous. Clark stopped many more explosions, but he worked hard not to be seen, as he didn’t want the inspector to know he was in London when Clark was. The Inspector was in a hurry to close the case, as he was about to win an award for not being beaten in ten years, and it might go over deadline. In the end the inspector was talking about loosing one ambition, but having succeeded at another. Clark was sure that this meant the he knew about his secret, and almost admitted it the silly! But it was just that he had solved the case while Superman was active.
Whiz Comics: Captain Marvel, Ibis
There were a series of strange events, beautiful- but deadly. Giant snowflakes fell from the sky, big enough to maim or kill. Rainbows covered the sky and blinded many, so Cap goes to see what is going on and finds an alien woman on the the moon whose life mission is to bring beauty to the universe. Cap eventually is able to tell her she is bringing harm and decides to make a space orphanage instead.
Zombie. You and I know the fictional version pretty well by now, but a lot of people forget that they are real. The villain in this piece used drugs and such to make a recently dead man have a semblance of life and sent him to kill his enemies. As he had no active nerves Ibis was unable to harm him with normal means, and he felt he needed to know who the zombie master was as well. It was an undertaker who had been banned from doing his work as he was burying the dead in the cheapest of boxes even when much better were paid for.
